In this 10-card expansion, players can venture into the ancient pines that dot the hills near their village, uncovering valuable rewards and bonuses. With the ability to explore these groves instead of caves, players can choose to forgo the storytelling element and instead focus on the potential treasures that lie within. By rolling for lanterns and using their characters to explore, players can claim the rewards they desire, but only if they have enough lanterns to afford them. As players successfully claim grove cards, they can place them adjacent to their buildings in their village, earning bonus village points at the end of the game if the symbols match. But be warned, once a building or grove is placed, it cannot be moved or rearranged, adding a new layer of strategy to the game. With its normal complexity and playtime of 60 to 120 minutes, Above and Below: Groves is perfect for 2 to 4 players who are familiar with board games and looking for a new challenge.
