Description

In the world of abstract strategy games, there are few that can match the simplicity and depth of TOPPEN, a game designed by Taiki Shinzawa and first published in 2013. This game is all about grid movement and outmaneuvering your opponent, making it a great fit for fans of strategic gameplay. With easy-to-learn rules, TOPPEN is accessible to players of all skill levels, but don't let that fool you - it's a game that requires careful planning and clever moves to come out on top. The game is played with ten tiles, five black and five red, with each player taking one color. The tiles are arranged in a square grid by the second player, forming a continuous shape that sets the stage for the battle to come. Players take turns placing one of their tiles on top of a neighboring tile or stack, following a few simple restrictions. You can only take the topmost tile from a stack, you can't split the tiles into two separate groups, and you can't move a tile to an empty space. If you can't make a legal move, you're forced to pass, but as soon as a move becomes available, you're back in the game. The goal of TOPPEN is simple: be the first player to have one of your tiles at the top of the last pile remaining when the game ends. With a playtime of just 5 to 10 minutes, this is a game that can be played in a flash, but the strategic depth is such that you'll want to play again and again. For two players, TOPPEN is a great way to challenge yourself and your opponent, trying to outmaneuver each other in a battle of wits. Whether you're a seasoned gamer or just looking for a new challenge, TOPPEN is definitely worth checking out.
