The garden is full of geckos, scurrying around capturing bugs and seeking out new areas to hide, and in Garden Geckos, you get to be a part of this exciting adventure. As one of 2 to 6 players, you'll represent a team of five geckos working together to achieve objectives and score victory points. The rules are easy to learn, making it accessible to everyone, and with a playtime of 20 to 45 minutes, you can squeeze in a game whenever you want. Designed by James Staley and released in 2024, Garden Geckos is an abstract strategy game that will challenge you to think critically and make tactical decisions. Your goal is to capture as many bugs as possible while completing objectives, which come in two forms: creating chains between geckos to link certain bug types or occupying specific patterns of terrain. You'll have a hand of three terrain tiles to work with, plus a secret bonus that only you know about, which could be a certain bug or terrain type. As you place your tiles and geckos on the board, you'll need to think ahead and strategize about how to surround bugs and complete your objectives. If you manage to surround a tile, you'll get to claim the bug on that tile, and if you create a sequence of bugs or terrain, you'll earn even more points. With each objective you complete, you'll earn bug points, and the player with the most points at the end of the game wins. The game ends when one player achieves six objectives or when the last tile is placed, so you'll need to balance your short-term goals with your long-term strategy. With its simple rules and deep gameplay, Garden Geckos is a game that will appeal to fans of abstract strategy and animal-themed games.
