Description

In Pre-existing Conditions, you're the big cheese, the head honcho, the CEO of a healthcare insurance company, and your goal is to keep those profits rolling in quarter after quarter. You'll start by assigning medical conditions to 10 customers, ranging from something relatively minor like tooth decay to something much more serious like cancer. Each condition has a premium, which is what the customer pays to be insured by you, and a cost, which is what you'll have to pay out if they make a claim. As the game unfolds over 24 rounds, representing two years of 12 months each, you'll calculate your premiums and then roll two dice to see which claims you need to pay out. The difference between the two is your profit for that month, and it's up to you to make sure you're coming out on top. Every quarter, you can choose a condition to deny, which means you won't have to pay out if its number comes up, and you can also use your dice to invest in things like lobbying, marketing, or personal security. These investments can help you purge unwanted customers from your books, add new ones, and even boost your security level to deal with potential threats. With simple rules that can be picked up quickly, Pre-existing Conditions is a solo game that can be played in just 15 to 20 minutes, making it a great fit for a quick break or a fun diversion. Designed by James Wendelborn and released in 2025, this game is all about making tough decisions and strategizing to come out on top. By the end of the two years, if you have more positive quarters than negative, you win the game. It's a challenging and engaging experience that will keep you on your toes as you navigate the ups and downs of the healthcare insurance industry.
