Description

In the City: Origins is a game of strategy and cunning where 2 to 5 players compete to become the new king of the city. With a playtime of just 45 to 60 minutes, it's the perfect game for a fun and engaging evening with friends. The rules are easy to learn, making it accessible to new players, but the game itself is full of depth and complexity thanks to its card drafting and variable player powers mechanics. Each player starts with a unique leader card, one of 20 different options, and must recruit people from the city square to gain victory points, influence, and the ability to manipulate the cards and interfere with their opponents. As the game unfolds, players must navigate the intricate web of alliances and rivalries to emerge victorious. The people you recruit have different levels of sway in choosing the new king, with aristocrats and other powerful figures worth more victory points than humble citizens. The game ends when two of the seven columns in the city square are empty, and the player with the most victory points is crowned the new king. With its rich fantasy setting and engaging gameplay, In the City: Origins is a thrilling experience that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end. Designed by Duncan Davis and first published in 2013, this base game is a great introduction to the world of card drafting and variable player powers.
