Description

Get ready to immerse yourself in the historic Zulu War of 1879, a game of strategy and simulation that drops you into the midst of the first British invasion of Zululand. Designed by Eric Faust and first published in 1988, this game is easy to learn but challenging to master, making it perfect for history buffs and wargame enthusiasts alike. As one of the two players, you'll take on the role of either the British or Zulu forces, maneuvering your units across a map of the terrain divided into 13.5 mile squares. The Zulu forces are made up of impi units, each comprising a variable number of ibutho units, which are kept secret until encountered by the British, adding an element of surprise and uncertainty to the game. As you navigate the grid, you'll engage in battles resolved on a separate battle-board, where the British forces will always be on the defensive and the Zulus will be on the attack. The game continues until one player reaches a loss limit or the British occupy the Zulu capital of Ulundi for two successive combat phases. With its unique blend of dice rolling, grid movement, and secret unit deployment, Zulu War 1879 is a thrilling and immersive experience that will keep you on the edge of your seat for the full 120 minutes of playtime. With its rich historical context and engaging gameplay, this game is a must-play for anyone looking for a challenging and rewarding wargame experience.
