Description
Goryō is an asymmetrical game of investigation and deduction for two players, set in mystical feudal Japan. One player takes on the role of a Samurai guarding the Imperial Palace, tasked with hunting down a vengeful spirit known as the Goryō, played by the other player. The Goryō appears in the palace in the form of a cat, bound to a specific type of object, and must smash five objects in the palace's rooms without being defeated by the Samurai. The Samurai, on the other hand, must exorcise the spirit by figuring out what type of object it's bound to or by catching its essence three times. The game is easy to learn, but don't let that fool you - it's a challenging and thrilling experience that plays out in just 20 to 30 minutes. Designed by Andrea Candiani and published in 2019, Goryō features a unique blend of action queue, grid movement, and hidden movement mechanics, making each game a fresh and exciting challenge. As the Goryō player plans their route and tries to mislead their opponent, the Samurai must use their wits to stay one step ahead and catch the spirit. With its simple rules and deep gameplay, Goryō is a must-play for fans of deduction games, and its short playtime makes it perfect for a quick gaming session.
