Description

At Any Cost: Metz 1870 is a game that drops you into the midst of the Franco-Prussian War, specifically the battles west of the Metz fortress in August 1870. This era is often overlooked in the gaming industry, but it's a fascinating study in contrasts, with traditional Napoleonic tactics clashing against modern killing technology. The Prussian military, armed with advanced steel Krupp breach-loading artillery pieces, faces off against the French army, equipped with the deadly Chassepot rifle and the first machinegun used en masse, the Mitrailleuse. Despite being outgunned, the French soldier fights valiantly, and it's up to you as the player to utilize your advantages and minimize your disadvantages to win the day. As you play, you'll be challenged to make tough decisions based on the Blind Swords chit-pull system, which emphasizes the unpredictability of war. With each chit pull, you'll have to adapt to changing circumstances and make the most of your units' strengths and weaknesses. The game features a range of scenarios, from small, limited battles to full-day campaigns, and includes a unique Prussian Strategic Movement system that adds a layer of depth and strategy to the game. Whether you're playing as the Prussian or French player, you'll be immersed in a world of tense action and constant surprises, where leadership, morale, and tenacity are just as important as firepower and tactics. With its engaging gameplay and historical authenticity, At Any Cost: Metz 1870 is a must-play for fans of wargames and strategy games.
