Description

Free at Last is a game that drops you into the midst of the civil rights movement in the Deep South, circa 1960-1964, where you'll take on the role of organizations like SNCC and CORE, fighting for equal rights and an end to segregation. You'll be working together with other players, but also competing to be the most effective organization, making for a unique cooperative and competitive experience. With 2 to 6 players, you'll navigate the challenges of the time period, from voter registration in Fayette County to desegregating schools in New Orleans, all through a card-driven game mechanism. As you play, you'll need to manage your hand carefully, using cards to activate special individuals, attempt projects, and respond to events, all while keeping an eye on the color of the numbers on your cards, which affects the type of project you can attempt. The game can be played in different lengths, from 3 to 9 turns, allowing you to experience different periods of the civil rights movement, from the Freedom Rides to the March on Washington. With its normal complexity level, Free at Last is easy to learn for those familiar with board games, and its variable player powers and worker placement mechanics add depth and replayability, making it a game you'll want to come back to again and again.
