Description

Road to the Rhine is a classic wargame that drops you into the midst of World War II, specifically the post-Normandy campaigns from September 1944 to April 1945. Designed by Frank Chadwick and first published in 1979, this game is a grand operational simulation that puts you in command of division and brigade-sized ground units and air wings. With a scale of 7 miles per hex and weekly turns, you'll need to navigate the challenges of logistics, supply chains, and combat as you push across the West front. The game's flexible sequence of play, which includes multiple impulses within each player turn, adds a layer of complexity and realism to the gameplay. As you play, you'll encounter a range of scenarios, from the initial Allied advances to the German recovery and the final drive across the Rhine. With 5 scenarios to choose from, including the full campaign game, you'll have plenty of opportunities to test your strategic skills. The game's combat mechanics are odds-based, with shifts and strength modifiers, and logistics play a crucial role in determining your success. With its normal complexity level, Road to the Rhine is accessible to experienced board game players, and its low stacking and book-keeping requirements make it suitable for solitaire play or games with up to 3 players. Get ready to immerse yourself in a rich and challenging gaming experience that will keep you engaged for hours – the average playtime is 360 minutes, after all.
