Description

Get ready to experience the unique and captivating world of Babuschka, a classic board game that has been entertaining players since 1982. Designed by Al Newman, this abstract strategy game is easy to learn, making it accessible to players of all ages, from 8 and up. In Babuschka, 2 to 4 players compete to cross the board and re-form on the opposite side, using a set of 24 nesting Russian dolls, consisting of small, medium, and large pieces. The game takes place on a modified 8x8 board, with the 12 corner squares removed, adding an extra layer of challenge and strategy. The gameplay is reminiscent of Halma, with pieces moving and jumping in a checker-like fashion, but with a twist. Players can only move the topmost piece of any Russian doll stack, and must land on an empty space or on top of a smaller piece. The clever part of the game is that pieces underneath others are out of reach, allowing players to immobilize their opponents' pieces by covering them, until they move away. This simple yet clever mechanic adds a layer of depth and strategy to the game, making it a fun and engaging experience for players. With a playtime of just 30 minutes, Babuschka is the perfect game for a quick and exciting match with friends and family.
