Europe in Turmoil: Prelude to the Great War is a card-driven game that drops you into the midst of early 20th century Europe, where two players take on the roles of opposing political ideologies. One side represents the Liberal ideology, encompassing socialist principles, while the other embodies the Authoritarian regimes of Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Russia. As you navigate the complex web of European politics, you'll need to manage your influence and alliances carefully, all while keeping a watchful eye on the rising tensions that could spark the outbreak of World War I. The game is set against the backdrop of the late Victorian era, with the great powers of Austria-Hungary, France, Germany, and Russia vying for dominance. The rest of Europe and northern Africa are represented by independent client states, waiting to be drawn into the orbit of one of the major powers. As you play, you'll encounter historical crises that threaten to destabilize the continent, from the Naval Arms Race to the simmering tensions between the great powers. With each crisis, the tension builds, and the risk of war grows. Will the Authoritarian empires hold out against the rising tide of Liberalism, or will the workers and intelligentsia rise up to challenge the status quo? The fate of Europe is in your hands, and the outcome is far from certain in this gripping game of politics and war.
