Vela is a super engaging board game where you get to control a group of miners on a mission to dig up the most valuable metals and precious stones. The rules of the game are easy to learn, so you can dive right in and start exploring the modular, three-dimensional board, which is made up of 150 tiles stacked on a 5x5 base. As you navigate the board, you'll have a range of actions to choose from, including moving your miners up to 2 spaces apart, using or drawing up to 2 cards, and mining a tile just below one of your miners. The mining part is where things get really exciting, as you'll be revealing tiles that could be worth points, or could trigger natural disasters or even monsters. To help you move around and overcome obstacles, you'll have access to a deck of equipment, including bridges, ladders, and dynamites that can increase your mobility and speed up the game. The tiles on the board are color-coded, with lighter colors representing shallower, safer areas and darker colors indicating deeper, more treacherous territory - and the only diamond tile in the game, which is worth a ton of points, can only be found in the darkest, deepest part of the board. The game is all about strategy and luck, as players take turns trying to accumulate the most points by collecting valuable tiles and avoiding hazards. When someone finally snags the diamond tile, the game is over and the points are counted - but having the diamond doesn't guarantee victory, so you'll need to stay focused and keep exploring until the very end.
