Description
In Okiya, two players compete to gain the favor of the emperor by arranging their tokens in the Imperial garden. The game is simple to learn, with rules that can be explained quickly, making it easy to dive right in. Each player takes turns removing a tile from the 4x4 grid and placing one of their tokens in the empty space, with the twist that the next player can only place their token on a tile that matches the vegetation or poetic symbol of the previously removed tile. As players try to outmaneuver each other, they can win the game by forming a line of four tokens, creating a 2x2 square, or forcing their opponent into a situation where they cannot place a token. With a playtime of just 10 minutes, Okiya is a quick and strategic game that's perfect for a casual matchup or a best-of-three series.
