Description

Get ready to experience one of the most pivotal battles of the American Revolutionary War with Monmouth, a game designed by Mark Miklos and published in 2007. This two-player game drops you into the sweltering summer heat of June 28th, 1778, at Monmouth Courthouse in New Jersey, where General Washington's Continental Army is about to come of age. With a playtime of 240 minutes, you'll have plenty of time to immerse yourself in the action, and the normal complexity of the game rules means that fans of board games will have no trouble diving in. As you play, you'll encounter interesting rules that add a rich layer of historical context to the game. For example, you'll have to contend with Lee's questionable command decisions, which can leave some American troops following random orders, while Washington's arrival mid-battle can turn the tide of the fight. Generals on both sides have varying degrees of skill, and some can only command a few troops, adding a layer of strategy to the game. And keep an eye out for Molly Pitcher, who can rally a single American artillery unit and stay with them for the rest of the battle. With variable reinforcements and a hexagon grid to navigate, Monmouth is a thrilling simulation of war that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
