Description

In Spandau 1780, you'll take on the role of an influential personality shaping the development of the region around historic Spandau between 1780-1880. Your goal is to fill your cabinet of wonders with rare works of art, competing with other players to see who can collect the most genuine pieces. The game starts with each player selecting a character from 1780, represented on a player board, and deciding whether to play with the standard income of resources or flip the board to choose a character-specific income. As you play, you'll earn coins and goods, play and draw cards, and expand your influence on the game board. You'll be presented with a lot of options to choose from, like whether to expand your influence now to gain more income later, invest in common wares or luxury goods, or participate in a military campaign. Each round, there's an auction for a new piece of art, and the winning bid determines who starts the round. But be careful, because for each genuine piece of art, there's also a fake one - if a fake is exposed, it's removed from the game. You'll need to strategically decide when to offer a piece of art to be exchanged by another player, all while trying to get rid of any fake art you might have. The combination of turn-based economy building, short and long-term strategy, and hard choices will keep you on your toes. You can choose to collect as many pieces of art as possible, invest resources to find genuine pieces, expose and remove fakes, or trade them secretly. The game is set on a historic map, with many references to people, goods, and iconic buildings, adding to the immersive experience. With simple rules that can be explained quickly, Spandau 1780 is a game that's easy to learn but challenging to master, making it perfect for 2 to 5 players looking for a fun and engaging experience that can last anywhere from 120 to 240 minutes.
