Description

Cortiça is a fantastic board game designed by Manuel Correia, where you get to play as competing farmers aiming to harvest the most corks. The game is inspired by the fact that Portugal is the world's largest producer of cork, and it takes 25-30 years for cork oak trees to mature, with their bark being extracted every 9 years. With its easy-to-learn rules and 35-minute playtime, this game is perfect for a fun and quick competition between two players. In Cortiça, you'll shuffle five actions and create a line of four, each with one or two spaces where you can place your workers. The actions are resolved from left to right, and when an action is completed, your worker goes into a stack. On the next turn, you'll draw and place your workers from the stack one by one, adding a layer of strategy to the game. This worker placement mechanic makes the game exciting and challenging, as you need to think carefully about where to place your workers to maximize your chances of harvesting the most corks. As a finalist in the 18 card worker placement challenge and a winner of several awards, including Best Analogue Game and runner-up for Best Game Design at the Imirt Irish Game Awards 2020, Cortiça has already proven itself to be a great game. With its recent nomination for the 5 Seasons Awards 2024 in four categories, it's clear that this game is a must-try for fans of card games and industry/manufacturing themes. Released in 2024, Cortiça is a great example of a well-designed print-and-play game that is both fun and engaging, making it a great addition to any board game collection.
