Description
Imagine being a prisoner on the infamous island of Alcatraz, desperate to escape and regain your freedom. In this abstract strategy game, 2 to 4 players take on the challenge of navigating their pieces through a 9x9 grid, reminiscent of a chess board, from one end to the other. The rules are easy to learn, making it accessible to players of all skill levels, but don't be fooled - the game requires clever thinking and strategic planning. Each piece can move horizontally or vertically as many spaces as desired, but beware of the guards, one in each row, who will move towards you, trying to catch you and make your move illegal. As players try to outsmart each other and the guards, the game becomes a thrilling brain-teaser, especially with more players. The board can get quite crowded, making it harder to escape, but also creating opportunities to use the guards to your advantage by making them catch other players' pieces. The first player to successfully escape with three of their four pieces wins the game. With a playtime of just 30 minutes, Alcatraz is a fun and quick game that's perfect for a casual game night or a strategic showdown with friends. Designed by Bernhard Weber and first published in 1999, Alcatraz has stood the test of time, offering a unique and engaging gaming experience that will keep you coming back for more.
