Description

Cruel Necessity is a solitaire game that puts you in the midst of the English Civil Wars, a time of great turmoil and upheaval. As the representative of Parliament and Puritanism, you must navigate the complex web of military, political, and religious struggles to prevent the destruction of all you hold dear. With four armies advancing against you, simply holding on to London won't be enough - you'll need to suppress the enemies of Puritanism, Parliamentary Government, and English domination if you hope to emerge victorious. The game takes into account the civil wars raging in Scotland and Ireland, which will have a significant impact on the gameplay at different times, adding a layer of depth and realism to the experience. As you play, you'll be using a variety of mechanics, including action points, campaign and battle cards, dice rolling, and event management, to make strategic decisions and guide your forces to victory. The game is designed to be challenging but not overwhelming, with rules of normal complexity that should be easy to learn for anyone familiar with board games. With a playtime of around 60 minutes, you can immerse yourself in the world of 17th-century England and experience the thrill of guiding your faction to success. The game's theme is deeply rooted in history, with the title "Cruel Necessity" referencing the purported response of Oliver Cromwell to the beheading of King Charles, highlighting the gravity and significance of the events you'll be shaping. This deluxe edition of the game offers a premium experience, with super high-quality components, including a thick and mounted game board, large font player aids, and sturdy counters. The game includes a full-color rulebook with designer's notes, a large mounted game board, player aid, 75 cards, and a sheet of thick, two-sided game pieces, as well as a blue and red 6-sided die to represent the opposing forces. With the updated values and impacts of the Achievement cards, as well as the inclusion of errata from the classic VPG edition, this edition offers a refined and immersive experience that will keep you engaged and challenged.
