Description

Imagine stepping into the sandals of a Librarian in the legendary Great Library of Alexandria, where the greatest minds of the ancient world came to learn, share, and preserve knowledge. In this game, you'll take on the role of one of these esteemed Librarians, tasked with leading the institution and navigating the challenges and opportunities that come with it. With 1 to 4 players, you'll embark on a journey to collect and preserve the intellectual heritage of the ancient world, just like Ptolemy I envisioned when he founded the Great Library in the third century B.C. As you delve into the game, you'll discover a complex web of mechanics, including connections, matching, tile placement, and worker placement, all designed by the renowned game designer Vital Lacerda. With different worker types and a unique turn order system, you'll need to strategically manage your resources and prioritize your tasks to emerge victorious. The game may take some time to learn, but the payoff is well worth it - with playtimes ranging from 100 to 180 minutes, you'll be fully immersed in the world of ancient Alexandria. You'll oversee the organization of the vast collection, guide students through their training, and personally engage in the art of translating and preserving texts from various languages, all while competing to earn the most renown. As you accumulate knowledge and contribute to the rich tapestry of ancient history, you'll be vying for the top spot - the player with the most renown wins the game. With its intricate mechanics and immersive theme, The Great Library is a game that will challenge and reward you in equal measure. So gather your friends, get ready to unleash your inner scholar, and step into the hallowed halls of the Great Library, where the pursuit of knowledge and the thrill of competition await.
