Veracruz: U.S. Invasion of Mexico 1847 is a gripping board game that drops you into the midst of a pivotal moment in history. Designed by Richard H. Berg and first published in 1977, this game is an operational simulation of General Winfield Scott's Mexican campaign, where American forces marched into the heart of Central Mexico to capture the capital, Mexico City. As one of two players, you'll navigate the challenges of supply and morale, all while trying to outmaneuver your opponent on a sprawling map of central Mexico. The game is full of interesting mechanics, including dice rolling and a hexagon grid, which add a layer of complexity and realism to the gameplay. As you play, you'll encounter a range of historical figures, including Robert E. Lee, Ulysses S. Grant, and George Pickett, who all played key roles in the campaign. You'll also have to contend with the harsh realities of war, including Yellow Fever, which claimed the lives of over 11,000 US soldiers. With a playtime of 360 minutes, Veracruz is a game that will keep you engaged for hours, challenging you to think strategically and make tough decisions. Despite its complexity, the game rules are of normal complexity, making it accessible to anyone familiar with board games.
