Random Game Picker 🎰
The legacy version of Kallax had a quirky little button that would randomly pick a game from your search and display a message like:
(∩ ` -´)⊃━━☆゚.*・。゚ Go Play 878 Vikings Invasions of England!
We didn't even really consider this a feature, honestly completely forgot about it, so it didn’t make it into the new version. Thanks to genericusername for pointing out the oversight on our Discord.
So! The random game picker is back and as an apology, we may have gone a little overboard when it comes to animations.
Improved e-mail delivery 📧
Our reset password e-mail had a poor delivery rate. This should improve now. We have moved the sending e-mail from reset@noreply.kallax.io to reset@kallax.io as some email services do not like receiving from domains with nothing hosted on them.
Contributions 🥰
Thanks to some generous one-time contributions we are only $3 away from reaching an incredible milestone: For the first time in 49 months Kallax.io may be fully funded by user support, no out-of-pocket expenses for the month of May🤞
I want to note a few things on that front. First off, we do really appreciate the helping hand in covering operational cost and keeping Kallax non-commercial.
However, this is "unprecedented" times for a lot of people. Please do not donate if you have better use for the money yourself and consider supporting your friendly local game store instead as they probably need the money more right now.
We are overprovision on server resources and can handle a lot more users without increasing our spend and also have room to spare in our CDN plan. One thing we are considering adding if the support continues is geocoding (turning addresses into geographical coordinates) and better log management which will both increase our spend slightly.
Other than that, we are good and we don't mind spending a bit on keeping this site running as we consider it a hobby in itself and hobbies are allowed to cost a bit.
There is many other ways to contribute. One of them is with feedback on Discord, BoardGameGeek or Reddit. It is very motivating to hear from you and your ideas are making a real difference in improving the site for everyone.
Another one is spreading the word. Links on your blog, profile bio or elsewhere really helps indicate to search engines that we are a legit site.
Dropping a link on your blog, profile description or in a forum conversation can make a huge difference. Profile links or search queries are good for this as they are stable and can provide real value in conversations.
For example:
See my board game collection here or Jerry Hawthorne has made some killer single-player games.
Please keep it genuine and do not spam though. We are trying to make a helpful tool for board game enthusiasts and their friends, not annoy them.
