Description

Im Schatten des Sonnenkönigs drops you into the lavish world of 18th century France, where you'll rub shoulders with noblemen all vying for the same thing: influence. As one of these high-society power players, you'll collect cards that represent five different abilities, which will become the cornerstone of your strategy. You'll also need to amass power and gold, both of which are tracked using handy cardboard chips. Each turn, you'll get to pick up one more card from a selection of one to three that have been turned over, giving you a constant stream of new options to consider. But here's where things get really interesting: certain cards and combinations of cards will give you the chance to perform special actions that can really shake things up. Want to get your hands on some extra gold or power? You can do that, but you'll need to have the most cards in a particular ability, possess a special card that you've managed to snag through an auction, or be willing to part with some of your hard-earned gold. You can even exchange cards with other players, destroy their power or cards, or engage in other sneaky tactics to get ahead. The rules are easy to learn, making it simple for new players to jump right in, and with two to six players able to join in on the fun, you can gather a group of friends and start scheming together in no time. As the game winds down, you'll start to tally up your points based on the power, gold, and certain cards you've managed to collect. With a playtime of just 45 minutes, Im Schatten des Sonnenkönigs is a quick and thrilling ride that's perfect for a weeknight game night or a weekend gathering. First published in 2002 and designed by the talented team of Alan R. Moon, Aaron Weissblum, and Guido Hoffmann, this game has been delighting players for years with its unique blend of auction bidding, card drafting, and set collection mechanics. Whether you're a seasoned gamer or just looking for something new to try, Im Schatten des Sonnenkönigs is definitely worth checking out.
