Description

Nippon: Zaibatsu is a game where you get to be the mastermind behind a massive Japanese conglomerate, known as a zaibatsu, during the Industrial Revolution era. As one of these powerful entities, you'll be competing against other players to drive the country's economy forward and become the ultimate ruler of the new modernized Japan. With the ability to invest in new industries, build factories and railroads, and produce goods to meet local demands and fulfill contracts, you'll have a ton of opportunities to grow your influence and power. The game lets you choose your own playstyle and winning strategy, giving you the freedom to decide what you want to focus on to score victory points. You'll have control over the game's pace, using income turns to make your moves and racing against other players to get the most beneficial factories, markets, and bonuses. With a playtime of 60 to 120 minutes, you'll have plenty of time to dive deep into the world of Nippon: Zaibatsu, and with the option to play with 1 to 4 players, you can enjoy it solo or with friends. Be warned, though - the game rules can be a bit complicated, so be prepared to spend some time learning the ins and outs. As a newly published game in 2025, Nippon: Zaibatsu brings a fresh take on the original Nippon game, with upgraded components, art, and design. The gameplay has been reworked to fit modern trends, with new resource types, revised ship rules, and more variable factories. Plus, with the addition of an automa-driven solo mode, you can enjoy the game even when you're flying solo. The game mechanics, designed by Nuno Bizarro Sentieiro and Paulo Soledade, include a mix of area majority, contracts, end game bonuses, income, card drafting, and worker placement, making for a rich and engaging experience that's all about building your economic empire and coming out on top.
