Description

Imagine a future where cities float in the clouds of Venus, and you're the governor of one of them, competing against other players to build the most thriving metropolis. That's the premise of Cities of Venus: Lost Contact, a city-building game set in the year 2222. As governor, you'll need to strategically deploy your population across various departments to keep your city running smoothly, all while trying to grow your population and accumulate resources. The game is designed to be easy to learn, so you can jump right in and start building your city, even if you're new to worker placement games like this one. The game is full of exciting mechanics, like the Drops from Earth that bring immigrants and upgrades to your city. But when a catastrophe strikes, cutting off communication with Earth, you'll need to scramble to make the most of the resources you have. The game is played over several phases, where you'll resolve events, mine for resources, and modify your city to make it the best it can be. You'll earn victory points for things like upgrading your city, mining resources, and growing your population, with bonus points for being the most populous, richest, or most upgraded city. The game can be played with 2 to 6 players, and a typical game lasts around 45 to 90 minutes, making it a great option for a fun night in with friends. As you play, you'll be racing against the clock, trying to build your city before the last Drop from Earth arrives, signaling the end of the game. The player with the most victory points at that point will be declared the winner, so you'll need to balance short-term needs with long-term strategy to come out on top. With its unique blend of city-building and science fiction elements, Cities of Venus: Lost Contact is a game that's sure to appeal to fans of worker placement games and anyone looking for a fun and challenging experience. Designed by James Staley and Adam Staley, and published in 2022, this game is a great addition to any board game collection.
