Description

Concurrent is a thrilling twist on the classic board game Risk, designed for 3 to 8 players and published in 2012. This expansion game takes the traditional Risk experience to a new level by introducing a simultaneous action system, where players determine their troop deployment and attacks at the same time. The game is set on a map of the world, with various countries and territories connected by borders and lines, and each player starts with a set of cards representing their initial territories and a certain number of army units to place on the board. As the game unfolds, players take turns writing down their actions on a piece of paper, including new unit deployments, attacks, and surge attacks. The number of units each player can deploy is based on the number of countries they control, their largest connected empire, and the continents they've conquered. When all players have made their decisions, they reveal their plans, deploy new units, and announce their attacks. The game is then resolved through a series of battles, using custom 12-sided dice to determine the outcome of each conflict. The dice rolls are influenced by the size of the armies involved, with larger armies having an advantage. The game continues round after round, with players vying for control of territories and trying to outmaneuver their opponents. With a playtime of around 120 minutes, Concurrent is a game that requires strategic thinking, negotiation, and a bit of luck. The complexity of the rules may take some time to learn, but the payoff is well worth it. As players navigate the intricacies of territory building, area majority, and dice rolling, they'll need to balance their short-term goals with their long-term strategy. With the ability to form alliances, launch surprise attacks, and adapt to changing circumstances, Concurrent offers a rich and dynamic gameplay experience that's sure to keep players engaged. The game ends when one player achieves a previously agreed-upon control limit, such as 60% or 80% of the territories, and that player is declared the winner.
