Get ready to indulge in a sweet treat of a game with DONUTS, a deliciously simple yet strategically deep abstract strategy game designed by Bruno Cathala. In this 2023 release, two players compete to align five rings of their color, and the game can be learned in no time thanks to its straightforward rules. The game starts with a random arrangement of four 3x3 tiles into a 6x6 grid, where each square has a line that dictates the direction of the next player's move. As players take turns placing their rings, the grid comes alive with possibilities. The twist comes when a player manages to sandwich an opponent's ring between two of their own, flipping those rings to their color. With each move, the board evolves, and players must think ahead to outmaneuver their opponent. The game ends when the board is full or a player achieves the ultimate goal of five aligned rings. If no one reaches this milestone, the player with the largest connected group of rings wins.
