Description

Tricky Chess is a unique and engaging board game that combines the strategic elements of chess with the excitement of trick-taking. Designed by Nathan Morse and published in 2014, this game is perfect for fans of abstract strategy and card games. In Tricky Chess, two teams of two players each compete against each other, with the goal of eliminating the other team's kings. The game is played in successive rounds, with each round consisting of recruitment, deployment, and mobilization phases. The recruitment phase is where things get really interesting, as players use trick-taking to collect cards that will determine which units they can deploy to the board. The winning card in each trick goes to the respective player's deployment zone, adding a layer of unpredictability to the game. Once the cards have been played out, players deploy their units to the board and engage in a game of chess, using the units they have available. The team that eliminates four of their opponent's units first wins the round, and a new round begins. With its unique blend of strategy and luck, Tricky Chess is a game that will keep you on your toes and coming back for more.
