Description

The Great Game: Rival Empires in Central Asia 1837-1886 is a thrilling board game that drops you into the midst of the 19th Century struggle for supremacy in Central Asia. Published in 2018 by game designer John Gorkowski, this game is designed for 2 players and can be learned quickly, despite its complex and engaging gameplay. As you take on the role of either the British or Russian empire, you'll navigate a delicate dance of diplomatic intrigue, colonial conquest, and proxy wars that spans 50 years. With a playtime of 120 to 180 minutes, you'll have plenty of time to develop your strategy and outmaneuver your opponent. As you move officers and troops across a point-to-point map of Central Asia, you'll need to enlist vassal states like Afghanistan and Bokhara to join your cause, either through diplomacy or combat. But be careful, as the loyalty of these vassal states can shift depending on their proximity to Russia or India. Random events like the Crimean War, Sepoy Mutiny, and American Civil War will also throw twists into the game, making each playthrough unique. With its combination of area majority, campaign and battle card driven mechanics, dice rolling, and point to point movement, The Great Game is a simulation of historical politics and war that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
