Description
Santiago is a game of strategic farming and negotiation, where 3 to 5 players compete to cultivate and water their fields. The game is easy to learn, and a typical playthrough takes around 75 minutes. Each round, players bid on tiles representing different plantations, which are then placed on the board along with an ownership marker indicating the yield. The player who bid the lowest becomes the canal overseer, deciding where a canal will be built, but can be influenced by other players with suggestions and bribes. As the game progresses, players must manage their water supply to keep their plantations thriving. If a plantation is not sufficiently watered, its production drops, and if this happens repeatedly, it may revert to fallow ground. At the end of the game, only cultivated land counts, with points awarded based on the type and ownership of each plantation. With its unique blend of auction, bribery, and tile placement mechanics, Santiago offers a fun and engaging experience for players.
