Description

In 1944, Japan launched a massive offensive in China, known as Operation Ichi-Go, with the goal of opening a land and rail route to their southern conquests, eliminating US bomber bases, and weakening the Nationalist Chinese capabilities. This offensive was the largest ground operation in Japanese history, involving 500,000 troops, 800 tanks, and significant logistics and artillery support. The game Operation Ichi-Go: Japan's Massive 1944 Offensive Across China puts you in the midst of this pivotal moment in World War II, allowing you to take on the role of either the Japanese or the Nationalist Chinese forces. As a wargame for one to two players, Operation Ichi-Go offers a complex and challenging experience that can take around 240 minutes to play. The game features a hexagon grid system, with units of maneuver ranging from divisions to army groups. The game also includes a solo option, where the player can command the Japanese attack against an automated Chinese defender. With nine monthly turns to navigate, players must strategically plan and execute their moves to achieve their objectives. The game's intricate rules and mechanics may take some time to learn, but the payoff is a deeply immersive and engaging experience that explores the what-ifs of this critical moment in history, including the potential impact of a massive US invasion on the Chinese coast.
