Description

Heading Forward is a unique and thought-provoking solitaire game that puts you in the shoes of someone recovering from a traumatic brain injury. Designed by John du Bois, who drew from his own experiences, this game takes you on a journey of rehabilitation and skill-building. Your goal is to relearn and develop skills in at least three different areas within the time limit set by your insurance company, all while managing your emotional and physical energy, known as "spoons". The game is easy to learn, but it's not without its challenges, as you'll need to carefully rotate and switch out cards to upgrade your skills from weak Level 1 to powerful Level 4. As you play, you'll encounter the memory of your trauma in the form of a trigger card, which can set you back, but with perseverance, you'll slowly regain the skills you need to take on bigger challenges. With a playtime of just 30 minutes, Heading Forward is a compact but impactful game that showcases the potential of board games to tell meaningful stories and simulate real-life experiences. Published in 2022, this game is a must-play for anyone looking for a solo game that's both engaging and thought-provoking, with its blend of hand management, multi-use cards, and solo gameplay mechanics making for a compelling and immersive experience.
