Get ready to immerse yourself in the tumultuous world of 1930s Spain with Land and Freedom: The Spanish Revolution and Civil War, a game designed by Alex Knight and released in 2023. In this semi-cooperative game, 1 to 3 players take on the roles of three factions - Anarchists, Communists, and Moderates - who must put aside their differences and work together to defeat the Fascist forces aided by Hitler's Germany and Mussolini's Italy. As you navigate the complexities of this historical conflict, you'll need to balance your own faction's agenda with the need to cooperate with your allies, all while making strategic decisions to repel Fascist attacks on four fronts. As you play, you'll build your faction's power by adding cards to your tableau, triggering bonuses and earning medallions that give you immediate boosts or permanent upgrades. The game is won by holding three out of four fronts for the Republic, with the faction that has contributed the most to the war effort, as measured by the tokens in the bag of Glory, emerging victorious. But if the war is lost, the consequences are dire - 40 years of dictatorship await, with death, imprisonment, or exile the only choices remaining. With its unique blend of cooperative and competitive gameplay, Land and Freedom offers a thrilling and thought-provoking experience that will keep you on the edge of your seat for 60 to 90 minutes.
