Description
In the board game Fir, you're tasked with building the most legendary band of loggers in the American West, and it's going to take some serious strategic planning. With two to five players competing over 80 to 180 minutes, you'll need to manage your timbermen and homesteads carefully to earn the most points over five rounds. The game is designed by Mark K. Swanson, and its normal complexity makes it easy for experienced board game players to jump right in. As you play, you'll be assigning tasks to your workers, from felling fir trees and driving logs to milling timber and stoking steam donkeys. It's not all smooth sailing, though - your workers can get injured, and when they do, they'll need to take a break and become foremen, freeing you up to recruit new day laborers. You'll also need to think about how to improve your homestead, whether that means tending to corn and chickens, building bunks and barns, or furnishing the river with bridges and rocker boxes. The supply chain is key, and moving timber along it will earn you valuable resources to help you compete in logging games and improve your homestead. The game is all about balancing risk and reward, as you navigate the challenges of the logging industry and try to outdo your opponents. With a range of mechanics, including hidden victory points, market and network building, and variable player powers, Fir is a game that will keep you on your toes. Whether you're visiting the trading post to pick up some essentials or taking a chance on a vaudeville performance, every move you make will bring you closer to - or further from - your goal of becoming the most legendary logger in the Pacific Northwest. So gather your friends, grab your axe, and get ready to embark on an epic adventure in the world of Fir.
