Description

Get ready to travel back in time to 13th-century France, where the stunning cathedral in Chartres is being built, featuring breathtaking stained-glass windows that still mesmerize people today. In the game Chartres, 2 to 4 players take on the roles of noble houses competing to become the most influential in the city. To achieve this, you'll need to strategically choose the right locations and assistants to strengthen your reputation, acquire horses and carts, fill barrels with the finest wine, and craft the most magnificent stained-glass windows. As you play through three decades, you'll select two cards from your hand each round, using one to activate the abilities of a previously played card. This clever mechanism allows you to build on your past actions, creating a sense of continuity and growth. You might use one card to decorate the cathedral with stunning stained-glass windows, while another helps you gather grapes to make wine or supports the growth of the city's population. As you gain a better status, you'll earn reputation, increase your hand limit, and unlock more rewarding actions. With each passing round, your decisions will have a greater impact on the final scoring, making every move count. With its engaging gameplay and beautiful theme, Chartres offers a thrilling experience for fans of card games and medieval settings. The game's normal complexity makes it accessible to anyone familiar with board games, and its simultaneous action selection and multi-use cards add a layer of depth and strategy. Designed by Johannes Schmidauer-König and released in 2025, Chartres is a captivating game that will keep you and your friends engaged for 60 to 90 minutes. By the end of the game, the house with the most influence will be declared the winner, but the real reward is the journey itself, as you navigate the challenges and opportunities of building a noble house in medieval Chartres.
