Description
Ten Dollar Words is a word game like no other, where you'll be using letters to make words to bid on even more letters, all in the hopes of making the most valuable word of all. Designed by Amabel Holland and published in 2024, this game is easy to learn, but don't let that fool you - it's got plenty of depth to keep you coming back for more. With two to four players and a playtime of just 30 minutes, it's the perfect game for a quick get-together with friends or family. In Ten Dollar Words, each player takes turns putting up one of four lots for auction, and then uses their letter tiles to make a word that will determine the value of their bid. The twist is that each tile has a Live side with a dollar value and a Dead side without, and which side you use can make all the difference. Tricky letters like Q and Z will double the value of your bid, while the dreaded S will subtract from your total - do you use it now and flip it to its Dead side, or hold on and hope for a better opportunity later? The goal is to accumulate the right letters to make the most valuable word possible, but it's not just about having a lot of letters - it's about being able to use them in the right way. As you play, you'll need to think carefully about which letters to use, when to take risks, and how to outmaneuver your opponents. The letters you win in each auction will join your available pool, but any Live letters you used to win them will be flipped to their Dead side - still useful, but no longer contributing to your bid total. In the end, it's all about making the most valuable word you can with the letters you've accumulated, and the player with the highest total wins the game. With its unique blend of word-building, strategy, and auctions, Ten Dollar Words is a game that's sure to keep you on your toes and leave you wanting more.
