Description

Fire in the Lake: Sovereign of Discord is an expansion that lets you dive deeper into the Vietnam War, specifically the years leading up to the events of the base game. This expansion builds on the legendary game Fire in the Lake, designed by Stephen Rangazas, and allows 1 to 4 players to experience the war from a new perspective. With a playtime of 60 to 180 minutes, this game is perfect for those who enjoy a challenge and are willing to invest time in learning the rules, which can be a bit complicated. Published in 2023, Sovereign of Discord offers a unique blend of area majority, influence, simulation, and variable player powers, making each game a thrilling experience. As you play through the expansion, you'll get to see how the war escalated from an insurgency between the ARVN and Viet Cong to the eventual conventional interventions by North Vietnam and the United States. The game includes new scenarios that take you back to 1961, right after the formation of the Viet Cong, or to 1963, during the tumultuous last year of the Diem regime. You'll also get to experience new mechanics, such as the Hanoi and Washington Tracks, which control the number of available pieces and abilities of the Viet Cong and ARVN factions. The Regime Stability Track adds an extra layer of complexity, affecting the cost of ARVN Operations and modeling the rising urban instability and coup plotting against the Diem regime. With 72 new Events and four new Pivotal Events, you'll be immersed in the world of the Vietnam War like never before. The expansion also includes bonus content for the base game, such as 40 new Events covering themes like women's role in the war and the effect of the war on South Vietnamese society. Two new short scenarios, Turning Point and Long 1964, offer even more opportunities to experience the war from different perspectives. The game also features a solitaire system, allowing you to play alone and test your skills against the Non-player system. With Sovereign of Discord, you'll get to experience the full Indochina War from 1961 to 1975, making it a must-have for fans of the original game and anyone interested in the Vietnam War. So gather your friends, or play alone, and get ready to dive into the complex and intriguing world of Fire in the Lake: Sovereign of Discord.
