Description
In the board game Caracas, you'll embark on an exciting adventure to create the best expedition map, just like Alexander von Humboldt did back in 1799. As one of 1 to 5 players, you'll take turns placing land tiles to explore the South American landscape, connecting them to your starting sea tile or existing tiles. The twist is that after each turn, you'll know exactly which tile you'll place next, since you'll be taking a tile from the market board that matches the symbol on the tile you just placed. This unique mechanism makes the game move quickly, even though the puzzle to achieve the best score is surprisingly deep. As you build your expedition map, you'll encounter common and rare animals, each with its own scoring rules. The common animals are worth 1 victory point each if you meet their specific requirements, while the rare ones are worth 2 points for meeting their unique conditions. But it's not just about collecting animals - you'll also be creating a landscape with different ecosystems like jungle, savannah, swamp, and river basin. The player with the most victory points in each landscape will score the most points, while the player with the fewest separate swamp areas will get the most swamp points. And watch out for dead-end rivers, which will cost you 1 point each. With easy-to-learn rules and a playtime of just 20 to 40 minutes, Caracas is a great game for players of all levels. The game mechanics of connections, network and route building, and tile placement all come together to create a engaging and challenging experience. As you build your map, you'll be thinking ahead to your next turn, trying to figure out how to connect your tiles and score the most points. But you'll also be keeping an eye on what the other players are doing, trying to learn from their strategies and stay one step ahead. With its unique blend of planning and adaptability, Caracas is a game that will keep you on your toes and leave you wanting to play again and again. Designed by Peter Joustra, Corné van Moorsel, and Ron van Dalen, and published in 2024, Caracas is a fresh and exciting addition to the world of board games.
