Description

March on the Drina is a wargame that drops you into the midst of World War I, with 2 to 4 players taking on the roles of Austria-Hungary, Germany, Bulgaria, and Serbia in the Balkan peninsula theater. Published in 2019 by game designers Vukašin Nišavić and Janko Nišavić, this game is easy to learn, but that doesn't mean it's simple - the rules may be straightforward, but the gameplay is engaging and challenging. The goal is straightforward: the Central powers need to occupy all the cities in Serbia, while the Serbians must prevent that from happening and liberate their territory. As you play, you'll control four types of units: infantry, cavalry, artillery, and generals, each with their own special abilities. The map is divided into hexagons, and only one unit can occupy a hexagon at a time, which adds a layer of strategy to the game. Controlling cities is key, as it allows you to gain national military capacity and reinforce your armies. But watch out for the events that can shake things up - each round represents a period of the 1914-1918 conflict, and a Calendar card will introduce special effects that can either help or hinder your progress. With a playtime of 120 to 180 minutes, you'll have plenty of time to dive deep into the game and explore different strategies. The gameplay is team-based, with players working together to achieve their goals, and the turn order is based on stats, which adds an extra layer of complexity. But even with all these mechanics at play, the game remains accessible and fun, making it a great choice for fans of wargames and World War I history. Whether you're a seasoned gamer or just looking for something new to try, March on the Drina is a great option - so gather some friends and get ready to march into battle.
