Description
Saints in Armor is a board game that simulates six battles of the early Thirty Years War, a time when the Catholic/Imperial cause was on a roll, enjoying almost unbroken victories. The game is designed for two players and can take around 300 minutes to play, so be prepared to settle in for a long and complex game. The rules might take some time to learn, but the payoff is worth it, as you get to experience the thrill of battles like White Mountain, Wimpfen, and Lutter am Barenberge. Each battle has its own unique flavor, with special rules that highlight the peculiarities of the early years of the Thirty Years War, such as Croat/Transylvanian style light cavalry. The game is all about simulation, using a hexagon grid to recreate the compact formations of the time. Despite some of the battles being unequal contests in military terms, the player victory conditions are balanced, making for an interesting and challenging game for both sides.
