Description

AFTERSHOCK: A Humanitarian Crisis Game drops you into the midst of a disaster-stricken country, where you and up to three other players must work together to address the urgent needs of the local population. Set in the fictional country of Carana, the game is loosely based on real-life disasters like the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami and the 2010 Haiti earthquake, and challenges you to navigate the complex web of humanitarian operations over the course of three months. From rescuing those in need to repairing critical infrastructure, every decision you make will impact the fate of the people of Carana. As you play, you'll need to balance the competing demands of delivering aid, managing resources, and maintaining public and political support for your organization. The game's cooperative design means you'll need to work together with your fellow players to succeed, but be warned: it's possible for some, all, or none of you to emerge victorious in the end. With the use of "At-Risk" cards, you'll need to bring in supplies, allocate aid teams, and respond to a wide range of challenges, from social unrest to infrastructure damage. Event cards will throw unexpected twists your way, but they'll also give you opportunities to tap into the resilience and self-help efforts of the local population. With its unique blend of pattern building, simulation, and worker placement mechanics, AFTERSHOCK: A Humanitarian Crisis Game offers a gripping and thought-provoking experience that's both entertaining and educational. Whether you're a seasoned board game enthusiast or just looking for a game that will challenge and engage you, AFTERSHOCK is sure to deliver. Designed by Rex Brynen and first released in 2015, this game has been praised for its realistic portrayal of humanitarian crisis response and its ability to inspire cooperation and strategic thinking among players. With a playtime of around 120 minutes, you'll have plenty of time to immerse yourself in the world of Carana and see if you have what it takes to make a difference in the face of disaster.
