Description
In Basilica, two medieval master masons compete to build the most impressive cathedral, with the goal of gaining the upper hand over their opponent. Players take turns laying square tiles to form the cathedral's plan, with each tile representing a different element of the building. The tiles are distinguished by four colors, and players aim to create the largest possible areas of a single color while also placing their pawns, or teams of builders, to bring their design to life. As players strive to outmaneuver each other, they must balance expanding the cathedral with using special actions on the tiles to move pawns, promote them, or manipulate the tiles. The game is won by earning Victory Points, which are awarded during royal visits to the cathedral, with the player controlling the largest and most areas claiming the most points. With easy-to-learn rules and a playtime of just 45 minutes, Basilica is a fun and strategic game for two players.
