Description

Glasnost is a game that takes you back to the end of the Cold War, a time of historic change and shifting global politics. Published in 1989, this game lets 2 to 8 players take on the roles of Americans or Soviets, navigating the complexities of international relations and communication. The rules are easy to learn, making it accessible to a wide range of players, and the gameplay is engaging and fun, with a playtime of around 90 minutes. As players move around the gameboard, determined by the roll of a die, they'll eventually find themselves in debates over key issues, trying to outmaneuver their opponents with persuasive arguments. The twist in Glasnost is the introduction of a neutral player who acts as a judge, deciding which side has presented the better argument and awarding them a coveted Peace Chip. The goal is to accumulate a target number of these chips, which varies depending on the number of players, and the side with the most chips at the end emerges victorious. This unique blend of strategy, debate, and diplomacy makes Glasnost a compelling and thought-provoking game that's as much about negotiation and communication as it is about winning. With its political theme and focus on international relations, Glasnost offers a fascinating glimpse into a pivotal moment in history, and its designers, Dr. Gini Graham Scott and J. Thomas Soltesz, have crafted a game that's both entertaining and enlightening.
