Description
In Upon a Salty Ocean, you'll embark on a thrilling adventure as a merchant in 16th century Rouen, where the city's wealth relies on the fishing and trading of salted fish. As one of two to four players, you'll invest in ships and city buildings to build a shipping empire and become the richest merchant. The game is designed by Marco Pranzo and takes about 120 minutes to play, with rules of normal complexity that are easy to learn for those familiar with board games. You'll start with a caravel loaded with salt barrels and a salt mine, and from there, you'll navigate the challenges of the ocean and the market to accumulate wealth. With a variable phase order and action points to manage, you'll need to strategically plan your moves to outdo your opponents. The game is a captivating blend of economic and nautical themes, set against the rich backdrop of the Renaissance, and the player with the most coins after five rounds will be declared the winner.
