Description

In the Shadow of Byzantium is a medieval-themed board game that drops you into the midst of a struggle for power and survival in a byzantine world. As the leader of a principality, you'll need to navigate the complex web of alliances, armies, and treachery to come out on top. With simple rules that can be explained quickly, you'll be able to dive right into the action, using your limited finances to build armies, forge marriage alliances, and construct fortifications to protect your land. The game is designed for 2 to 7 players, making it a great option for large groups, and with a playtime of around 120 minutes, you can expect a fun and intense experience. The game's variable termination rules mean that the last turn could come at any time between turns 12 and 20, keeping everyone on their toes and preventing the "gang up on the leader" syndrome from taking over. You'll have the chance to play as one of seven different principalities, each with its own unique character, from the Empire of Constantinople to the Venetians of Crete. With its fast-paced and unpredictable gameplay, In the Shadow of Byzantium is a nail-biter that will keep you guessing until the very end, making it a thrilling experience for fans of medieval-themed games and wargames alike.
